Tanya Tagaq wins the 2014 Polaris Music Prize for Animism

The 2014 Polaris Music Prize was handed out on Monday September 22, 2014 in Toronto. The $30,000 cheque went to Tanya Tagaq for her release Animism, beating out Arcade Fire, Basia Bulat, Drake, Jesse Lanza, Mac DeMarco, Owen Pallet, Shad, Timber Timbre, and Yamantaka//Sonic Titan.

The thankful Tagaq urged the sold out audience to eat seal, and “F*CK PETA”.

2014 SIRIUSXM INDIE AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

(TORONTO, ON – May 10) Canadian Music Week is pleased to announce the winners of the 2014 SiriusXM Indies – 14th Annual Independent Music Awards. City and Colour, Arcade Fire and Arctic Monkeys are among the winners recognized tonight across 37 categories.

Celebrating the best of independent music – both Canadian and International – the Indies were held at Kool Haus, and featured special performances from artists such as Hollerado, Mounties, Born Ruffians, Ponctuation, The Strumbellas, and The Hidden Cameras. Sweden’s internationally acclaimed Little Dragon also took to the SiriusXM Indies stage for an exclusive set.
